A priority date is current when it falls before (earlier than) the cutoff in the U.S. Department of State Visa Bulletin for your preference category and country of chargeability — a date equal to the cutoff is not yet reached. This tool stores no bulletin data of its own — it asks you to read the official bulletin and enter the cutoff you find there, then echoes the comparison. Because it holds no cutoffs, it can never go stale and can never assert a cutoff that is wrong. It recognizes what you stated; it does not determine that a visa number is available, and it is not a notario.

Why this tool holds no bulletin data
The Visa Bulletin is republished every month and cutoffs can move forward or retrogress. A tool that hard-coded this month's chart would silently lie the moment the next bulletin posted. So this one stores nothing: it only compares the two dates you supply and points back to the official source. The honest version of "is my date current?" is "here is the comparison you cited — now confirm the chart and your chargeability with counsel."
